Why we went there?
We had left South and Central America and had planned to move in to the European region for four months over the summer. The United Kingdom is not part of the Schengen Visa Zone that restricts many nations such as Australia and the US to a limited stay of 90 days in a 180 day period. We hit London at peak season with Wimbledon and Ascot busy with tourists. We had left our booking to the last moment, hoping that we would get accommodation in the city near Paddington Station so that we would have easy access to the airport for our flight on the 4th July to Croatia. This was not the case. All hostels and bed and breakfasts were either full or charging exorbitant prices well over our budget. We travelled up from Bournemouth where we were staying with friends over the previous weekend and we were pleased to have found easyHotel London Heathrow.
Why we chose it?
We came across easyHotel London Heathrow which is part of the easyJet chain and it was within our budget for London. They have capsule like rooms, no windows in our room and bathrooms similar in style to ones you will find on boats or yachts. They provide a TV in each room and you have free Wi-Fi access for 30 minutes before you need to pay for it. The location was easy for us to get to Windsor and into the City and easy for our flight from Heathrow to Zagreb.
You can buy food from a vending machine or a local delivery from an Indian restaurant if required.
There is a shuttle service to and from Terminal 1 at designated hours.
What was it like?
It was centrally located, an easy taxi or bus ride to the location from Heathrow terminals. It felt remote and bland on arrival however the reception staff were very welcoming. They provided lots of information on how to travel to the airport, the tourists sites of Windsor and the City of London. The bedroom/bathroom are basic small capsules, pod like and sealed so that they are sound proof. The whole complex was well managed and kept very clean and tidy. It is definitely a hotel for travelers where you just need to have a bed for the night. The bus to Heathrow is very economical and runs regularly.
What was around it?
Harlington Metro was a short bus ride away in one direction and a bus service to Terminal 1 in the other. There is a great pub at the end of the road called the White Hart that served very good meals and drinks at a reasonable price. To get on the Piccadilly Line Metro train into City of London was easy and the Number 140 bus to Central Heathrow was a short walk away from easyHotel.
Would we return?
Yes. We would return to easyHotel London Heathrow if we needed a hotel close to the airport for an early departure. We would also take advantage of getting the bus from the airport terminal to and from the easyHotel. This would essentially save almost one night’s accommodation and as indicated in their online instructions is easy to locate and use.
Cost? GBP46/AU$76 per night
How was the Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi was chargeable after 30 minutes and did work well in the bedroom.
