Why we went there?
We travelled from Marseille via bus to this amazing city. Our idea was to use Cannes as a base to visit Nice and Monte Carlo and at the same time catch up with family members who were travelling to Cannes for a short break.

Why we chose it?
Trip Advisor and had good reviews for Hotel de France. The Hotel is located right in the middle of the main street of with its numerous shops and only a minute away from the Croisette and the beaches. It was also within walking distance to the train station. It was right o at the top of our budget. There was a rooftop bar area and they offered free Wi-Fi.

What was it like?
Hotel de France  is situated one street back from the main beach frontage. The taxi dropped us outside the quaint doorway with its welcoming reception. The hotel and bedroom areas were very well maintained and clean. There was a lift up to the restaurant area on the first floor and to the bedroom levels. The staffs were extremely helpful especially when we had many issues with the Wi-Fi. All staff was very knowledge and provided good information on how to get around Cannes and what to see and do.

What was around it?
Hotel de France Cannes is surrounded by many supermarkets, banks, ATMs, restaurants, cafes and high end shops within easy walking distance. The train station was a 5 minute walk away which was handy as we wanted to do day trips to Nice and Monte Carlo.
There is a Blue Azure Open Top Bus that travels around the beachfront   at a bargain cost of 1.50 euros per person. This gives you a great perspective of the beaches, the luxurious accommodation and the marina area of Cannes. We highly recommend this bus trip.
We enjoyed eating in the back lanes  in the evening and watched fireworks from the restaurant Gatoneau on the waterfront. Cannes was hosting a music and firework international show whilst we there and we were fortunate to experience over an hour of fireworks, music and light shows whilst having wonderful three course French cuisines.

Would we return?
Yes definitely. We enjoyed the location of the Hotel de France Cannes right in the centre  this busy city.

Cost? Euros99/AUD140 per night

How was the Wi-Fi?
The Wi-Fi was an issue and could only be used in the restaurant area.
