House and Garden Tour San Miguel de Allende

Gaudi Bat House

Every Sunday, the House and Garden tour conducted by volunteers of the Biblioteca Publica de San Miguel de Allende reveals the beauty behind the doors of San Miguel’s best homes and gardens.   Local residents open their homes for the use of the Biblioteca as a civic contribution.

House and Garden Tour Homes – The Gaudi Bat House and Casa Schuck.

The following excerpts taken from Tour Information provided on the day:

The Gaudi Bat House

First time in the House and Garden Tour, a house designed from special effects fantasy movies, comes to life.  The Gaudi Bat Casa, does not have the conventional forms of a normal home.  Designed in 3D in the computer, by special affects artist, Steven Rude, this casa has vertebra suitcases winding up to a caverna, alien pods with tentacles and aqua ducts flowing into sinks.  Steven has worked on special effects for 2 Harry Potter Films for IMAX, and designed many commercials for TV.  With the hard work of his team of artistic Mistros, Roy, Lole and Antonio we have created something very beautiful only seen in the Sci Fi movies.  “Whatever is designed in the computer, comes to life.  It is truly magical creating a surrealists Casa from buckets of cement.”

To Travel Too Tip: We were looking forward to the tour especially to see the unique Gaudi Bat House but we were under the impression the second house was a private home.  Casa Schuck we could have visited on our own.  If you are interested in the tour make enquiries about the properties you are viewing.

We have had some great adventures in Mexico, have you been?

My husband and I visit SMA for our first time this October. We arrive by bus on a Sunday so we will miss the home tour but enjoyed the article. If you have any other recommendations, we would be grateful. This will not be a housesit so our time is our own. 🙂

    • We would recommend picking up the San Miguel de Allende’s little red tourist book that you can get from free at most places, try the information centre. The book has listed ten free walks, check out our post Top Things to do in San Miguel de Allende on our site, it shows the cover of the book. I would do this first, it really gives you such a good feel for the city. Also try one of the rooftop restaurants at night for the sunset viewing – we will try the Rosewood Hotel this time when we return in a few weeks time. Enjoy your time there, it is a beautiful place.
