Marriott Mena House, Giza: Waking Up to the Pyramids

This one had been on our bucket list for years before we ever booked it: a room at the Marriott Mena House with a real view of the Pyramids of Giza. When we finally checked in, we specifically asked for one of the better rooms — and we couldn’t have asked for a better result. This is what that experience actually looked like.

We arrived after leaving Alexandria with our private driver and Egyptologist from Egyptian Edu Travel, stopping en route at the new Grand Egyptian Museum — not yet fully opened during our visit, but we still got a genuinely worthwhile hour there with our guide.

Check-In and Location

Address: 6 Pyramids Road, Giza — about a ten-minute walk to the main ticket entrance of the Giza Pyramids.

Worth knowing: there’s a short walk from your transport drop-off to the hotel entrance, and you and your bags go through a security check every time you enter — not just on arrival. Factor a few extra minutes into your comings and goings.

Check-in itself was quick and efficient. When we were shown to our room and saw 180-degree views over the grounds straight to the Pyramids, it was, genuinely, an “aaaaahhhhh” moment — the kind of reaction that’s hard to fake and impossible to plan for.

The Room

We’d booked the King Bed Deluxe Guest Room with the Pyramid view, and it delivered exactly what we’d hoped for. Waking up, opening our eyes from that king-size bed, and seeing the Pyramids shimmering in the early morning light is a genuine highlight of our years of travel — not an exaggeration.

The room measured 35 square metres, with a sofa, coffee table, and desk area, and a spacious bathroom stocked with Acca Kappa toiletries, which we genuinely enjoyed. The mini bar came with complimentary water, a Nespresso machine, and a kettle with tea and coffee. Decor-wise, it’s recognisably Marriott — muted browns, dark wood furniture, crisp white linen — familiar if you’ve stayed at other properties in the group, but well executed here.

A small touch we appreciated: a fresh fruit platter and local Egyptian pastries waiting for us after the long drive from Alexandria. Plenty of power sockets too, which, after a few hotels without them, we no longer take for granted.

Facilities and Dining

The grounds are genuinely beautiful — manicured gardens and a large, inviting pool that we wished we’d had more time to use. For dining, there’s a real choice on-site:

  • 139 Pavilion Restaurant (24-hour, Western and Egyptian)
  • The Moghul Room (Indian cuisine)
  • Alfredo (Italian)
  • The Pool Bar
  • The Lobby Lounge
  • M Club Lounge

The Mogul Room

We chose the Moghul Room on our first night — tasty, well-seasoned dishes and excellent service. Our second night, we ate at the 139 Pavilion, where the menu was equally good, and we caught a solo Whirling Dervish performance while we ate, which was a nice, unplanned bonus.

Breakfast, served in the 139 Pavilion, mixed Western and Egyptian hot and cold options, with plenty of cereal, pastry, and fresh fruit choices.

One tip we learned the fun way: if you’re sitting outside, cover your plate with your napkin before heading back to the buffet. The local birds are fast, opportunistic, and entirely unbothered by your presence.

We didn’t have time for the Saray Spa, unfortunately, but the gym looked well-equipped if you can fit it in.

Would We Stay Again?

Without question. Between the location, the view, the food, and the level of service, this genuinely lived up to years of wanting to stay here, which is a high bar for any hotel to clear. If a Pyramid-view room is on your own list, this is where we’d point you.

FAQ: Marriott Mena House, Giza

How far is the hotel from the Pyramids? About a ten-minute walk to the main ticket entrance — one of the best locations in Giza for this.

Is it worth paying extra for a Pyramid-view room? For us, unquestionably yes — waking up to that view was one of the highlights of our whole Egypt trip. If the budget is tight, ask about partial-view rooms as a middle ground.

How far is the hotel from Cairo Airport? Around 41km.

Is there a security check at the hotel? Yes, at the entrance, and it applies every time you come and go, not just on arrival — worth building a few extra minutes into your plans.

Do you need to book far in advance for a good room? We’d recommend booking as early as you can, particularly if you want a specific room category with a Pyramid view, given how sought-after this property is.
