After spending two weeks in the Golden Triangle of India and travelling around Sri Lanka, our next destination was Adaaran Hudhuranfushi, which was a highlight for us.

We flew with Sri Lankan Airlines from Colombo to Male. As we approached Male Airport, the whole plane excitedly pointed out the many islands below and the stunning blue ocean waters.

Male Airport is located on Hulhule Island in the North Male Atole. After clearing customs and collecting our bags, we walked a short distance to our speed boat, which whisked us away to Adaaran Hudhuranfushi, 19 km from the airport. The journey took 30 minutes.
Good to know: We purchased a sim card at the airport while waiting for our speedboat transfer.

We had booked the Sunrise Ocean Villa, which, as the name implies, is on the side where the sun rises; Sunset Ocean Villas are also available opposite us.
As we had paid a premium price for the overwater villas, our package included a dedicated butler service 24 hours a day and meals at the exclusive Sunset Restaurant. Buggys were available to whisk us from our villa to the main island for meals and activities.
Check-in at Adaaran Hudhuranfushi
We had a private check-in, and the Maldive Islands Green Tax of 12 USD per person per night was handled for us while we sipped on a refreshing mock cocktail. We were taken to our Sunrise Ocean Villa as soon as the formalities were completed.
Our Accommodation – Sunrise Ocean Villa
That first glimpse as you open the door, and your gaze goes straight to the views in front of you. There were lots of oohs and aahs as we explored our luxurious room. A chilled bottle of sparkling wine and fresh fruit caught our eyes, and as we had been travelling all day, it was very welcome. We were provided with tea and coffee-making facilities and an espresso machine.
The bar fridge was filled with soft drinks, water, and beer, which could be refilled at any time during our stay at our request. It was all complimentary! Plus some delicious chocolates too!
Our Ocean Sunrise Villa was one of 20 measuring 64m 2. The bedroom had everything we could want for a very comfortable stay.
The oversized bathroom had a bath and a shower that overlooked the ocean outside. If guests were swimming past your villa and you were showering you may need to cover up.
The bathroom led out to the desk, which had two sun loungers, a table, and chairs. Steps led down to the ocean below for ease of swimming. At all times, we noticed various fish, small sharks and a stingray.
Meals at the Sunset Restaurant
Times:
- Breakfast: 07.00 a.m – 09.30 a.m
- Lunch:12.30 p.m – 02.30 p.m
- Dinner: 07.30 p.m – 09.30 p.m
- à la carte:11.00 a.m – 11.00 p.m *Chargeable for all guests
A delicious and plentiful buffet was provided for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For an extra cost, you could order from the a la carte menu. All alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were complimentary. The buffet served International cuisine, with continental, Indian, Chinese and Arabic favourites exclusively for ocean villa guests. My favourite – Indian cuisine with a large selection of dishes to choose from at each sitting.
Cocktail Hour at the Tiki Bar
Before heading to dinner, we enjoyed a ‘sundowner’ or two at the Tiki Bar, open from 10 a.m. to midnight.
Good to know:
As Ocean Villa guests, you can dine at the other restaurants available on the island.
Activities at Adaaran Hudhuranfushi
We experienced a sunset, dolphin, and snorkelling cruise during our stay, which was included in our package.
Mid-afternoon, you would find us at the swimming pool enjoying a cocktail or two or relaxing on our deck with the occasional swim below our villa.

When is the Best Time To Visit The Maldives
We visited in August, and we experienced rain showers during the day.
The best months to visit the Maldives are from November to April – the dry season.
Did we use local currency?
Maldivian Rufiyaa is the local currency of the Maldives. We did not change any currency. If you have USD, you can use it for tips and to pay the Green Tax.
What travel adaptor do you need for the Maldives?
The electric current in the Maldives is 230 volts at a 50-hertz frequency, so if you are coming from a country with a different voltage or plug type, you will need a travel adapter.
