Why we went there? As part of our RTW air ticket travelling from Mexico to Europe the easiest route was via Miami so we took advantage of the routing and spent two nights there. It had been about 18 years since we had travelled there and we were looking forward to seeing the changes and the art deco buildings.

Why we chose it? We chose Riviera Suites South Beach Miami as there was a special deal with Hotels.com. We wanted to be in the South Beach Miami area so we could walk to the beach and enjoy the shops and restaurants and people watching. The hotel provided free Wi-Fi, breakfast, free cocktail hour nightly between 7pm and 8pm and free transport from the airport and return. We compared the cost of staying in a Hostel with Riviera Suites with their free additions and it became cost effective for us to stay here. The hotel is centrally located in the South Beach area. We booked a private room with ensuite. There were also two swimming pools to choose from. Breakfast was included in the price.

What was it like? We were picked up from the airport in the courtesy bus provided by the hotel. Riviera Suites has 3 hotel locations all on the same street which is within walking distance to South Beach and the restaurants. We were located in the main hotel where reception is located. The rooms are amazing, great décor, the best pillows and bedding on a really comfortable bed. We felt very spoilt staying here in this luxury. All staff were very helpful and friendly. All areas were clean and maintained well. A Breakfast Buffet was provided in the hotel across the road around the swimming pool. When the breakfast area was busy there tended to be a lack of seating. The hotel offered cocktails during their free cocktail hours; it was a popular event and a great way to meet other travelers.

What was around it? It was fun being able to walk to South Beach which was located a block away and the main shopping area about four blocks away. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, major shops, department stores, banks, ATMS in the vicinity and no lack of available transport. Just walking around the Art Deco buildings was amazing. We enjoyed window shopping and people watching whilst eating and drinking in the many open air restaurants.

Would we return? We would return to the hotel definitely. Around the South Beach area there were a lot of drug addicts and drunks during the day which made us feel unsafe. We had just spent four months travelling throughout South and Central America and felt safer there than we did in South Beach.

Cost? USD127/AU138 per night including taxes. Included breakfast and airport transfer, which we estimated was US25 for transport each way and US10 per person for Breakfast. This meant we met our accommodation budget by Riviera Suites offering these additional services.

How was the Wi-Fi? Free Wi-Fi in all areas of the Riviera Suites South Beach Miami including the breakfast pool area over the road, the bar and the bedroom.
