Our review of Tri Yaan Na Ros in Chiang Mai in Thailand.
Tri Yaan Na Ros, Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Booked through: Booking.com
Why we went there?
Chiang Mai was high on our list of places to visit in Thailand. It is the 2nd largest city in Thailand and the Northern Capital. We were interested to gain a feel for the difference in the Thai culture and countryside away from the bustling Bangkok City. We have also considered living here longer term and wanted to get a feel whether it was right for us or not. Two of our family members come from Chiang Mai so it was of personal interest to us.
Why we chose it?
It was the 2013 Christmas period and we wanted to treat ourselves to some luxury for two nights – Christmas Eve and Christmas Night. Tri Yaan Na Ros had great reviews on Trip Advisor and Booking.com and they had a deluxe room available with ensuite, free Wi-Fi and breakfast all centrally located. A swimming pool and café was also available on site.
What was it like?
We arrived after a 6 hour bus trip from Phitsanulok and a 20 minute Tuk Tuk ride to a beautiful colonial home in Chiang Mai. So much atmosphere, it was like a WOW. The deluxe room was more like a private villa on the top level. We had a large bedroom, a second bedroom, shower and toilet, lounge area with TV, fridge and coffee making facilities and a small alcove with a computer. All furnished and decorated in dark red colours typical of a colonial mansion. The pool area was landscaped beautifully and tastefully done. An oasis in a big city. We had an evening meal in the restaurant; it was the best green curry I have ever tasted with the crispest roti bread as well. Christmas morning breakfast consisted of eggs, fruit, cereals, tea and coffee, pastries with Christmas songs playing in the background. The complex was well maintained and very clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
What was around it?
Tri Yaan Na Ros was located about a 20 minute walk from the centre of Chiang Mai. There are many restaurants, bars, banks, ATMS available within walking distance. Mini markets are scattered throughout. Tuk Tuks ply the street for trade. We had booked the Red Lion Pub for a traditional Christmas lunch and it was only a 10 minute Tuk Tuk ride away near to the Night Market. There are many places to visit in and around Chiang Mai and these can be booked through the many travel agencies located on the streets.
Would we return?
Yes. For a special treat we would return.
Cost? AUD101 per night
How was the Wi-Fi?
The Wifi worked well in the reception, restaurant, and the rooms and around the swimming pool.
