Wyndham Hotel Merida Yucatan Peninsula Mexico Review (Updated 2025)

Are you wondering where to stay in Merida in Mexico? Do you want a hotel located well with a swimming pool and close to attractions?

We spent a few nights at the Wyndham Merida and share with you our review of the hotel.

The Wyndham Hotel Merida in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, is a 5-star luxury hotel with a history.

Merida in Mexico is famous for its colonial mansions, stunning architecture, and local cuisine, and its location is close to the Mayan temples.

Outside of Mexico City and Havana Cuba, Merida rates 3rd in the number of colonial mansions in Latin America.

Guest Review of the Wyndham Merida:

Our extended family group of seven enjoyed excellent service and quiet comfort here. As some had stayed near the Grande Plaza on a previous trip and found it to be noisy, we were all thrilled with this quiet residential neighbourhood, which was still an easy walk to Paseo Montejo shops and sights.
Consuelo García, the concierge, worked with our group ahead of our trip to arrange an itinerary and transportation for special events in town and day trips out of the city and was remarkably patient, knowledgeable and professional. The entire staff was friendly, responsive and made our trip very enjoyable.

The Wyndham Merida was constructed in 1912 originally as a family mansion. Over time it was converted into a hotel.  The restaurant, bar and spa belong to the original antique colonial mansion. Yucatecan artisans working in local wood and stone have restored this colonial mansion beautifully.  The old and new combine to create a welcoming, luxurious hotel of 100 rooms, bar and restaurant.

Our Superior Double room, with its stylish modern decor, was a haven after a full day of sightseeing around the region.

We welcomed the Wolfgang Puck Coffee Machine and the 2 bottles of water, both topped up daily.

The room had ample power outlets on the desk and close to the bedside table which is important for us with all of our technology equipment.

The room was supplied with

  • 1 queen-size bed and 1 double bed
  • 2 telephones
  • Laptop Room safe
  • Ironing Board and Iron
  • Flat-screen TV
  • Work desk

Luxury toiletries

Our bathroom was spacious with Lavarino Cossio toiletries: moisturiser, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

Colourful local artwork decorated the bedroom walls.

It was hard to get out of bed in the morning with its luxurious cotton sheets and many pillows. The coffee helped from the Wolfgang Puck Coffee Machine.  We were really impressed with the quality and the temperature of the coffee that this little machine produced.

Check-In at the Wyndham Merida

Check-in was handled very smoothly.  Normally, check-in is at 3 pm, but our room was ready for us.  We had the warmest welcome from the Bell Boy on arrival, and he provided a wealth of information on local tourist attractions.

During Our Stay at the Wyndham Merida

Every morning as we left the hotel and on our return, we were greeted and enquiries made of us on how our day was by staff at the door and at Reception as we walked by.

The concierge was extremely helpful with local maps and guidance on easily travelling into Centro Historico.

Our request to print our travel documents was handled quickly and efficiently.

During the day, near Reception fruit, flavoured water was available, as well as an assortment of fruit and pastries.

Check Out at the Wyndham Merida
