Why did we choose the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel

El Tahrir Square
El Tahrir Square

We chose the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel because of its location close to El Tahrir Square and the Egyptian Museum. We wanted to be able to wander around the area and cross the River Nile to the Cairo Tower.

The reviews that we had read were all complimentary on all aspects of the hotel from rooms, restaurants, wifi, location and cleanliness.

Check-in at the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel

We were travelling Egypt with the services of Egyptian Edu Travel which included transfers from Cairo Airport to the Steigenberger Cairo.

We were so impressed with their services that we have brought them on board as partners of To Travel Too. This means that you will get a discount if you mention our promo code TTT2024. Please contact: [email protected] for quotes.

Our transfer organised by Egyptian Edu Travel was the best we had experienced.  They meet you just before you go through customs and assist you with visas, money exchange, sim cards and getting you through customs in a speedy manner to collect your bags and whisk you away to your hotel without any hassles.  We can highly recommend this service.

Check-in was fast and efficient and we were soon in our Superior City View Room after a long flight from Bangkok.

Our superior City View room had glimpses of El Tahrir Square and the pool below.

The decor was contemporary with warm tones of blue that complimented the furniture in the room.

The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the luxurious linen.

The bathroom was spacious and had all the toiletries needed for our 3-night stay in Cairo.

The desk was spacious enabling  us to catch up on our emails during our stay. There were plenty of power sockets to charge all our equipment that we travel with.

A well-stocked mini bar if needed and a good supply of complimentary coffee and tea. Complimentary water was provided.

Facilities at the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel

A fully equipped gym is available, which unfortunately we did not have time to use. You can take advantage of their Spa services in the hotel to relax after a busy day in Cairo.

The swimming pool was a gathering place for guests after a long day of sightseeing. The bar supplies a variety of drinks and bar snacks.  We enjoyed our first bottles of Sakara Beer – the local favourite beer of Egypt.

There are 2 bars in the hotel – one to the left of the entrance and the bar in the outside pool area.

There is also a gift shop available and an ATM.

Security at the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel

With the conflict happening in Gaza security was of utmost importance to us and all other travellers to Egypt.  Security was high at the hotel with guards checking all vehicles on entry and our bags scanned at the main entrance.  There was a large police presence a few metres down the road.

The Restaurant at the Steigenberger El Tahrir Hotel

Breakfast was included in our rate.  The full buffet breakfast had everything that you would expect from a 5-star hotel with local Egyptian cuisine and Western cuisine.

After a healthy breakfast, we headed out quite early every day for our full-day tours with Egyptian Edu Travel. The restaurant can get quite busy around 7 am, so you need to plan your visit wisely.

We enjoyed one evening meal in the Restaurant dining on vegetarian pasta, a very filling chicken wrap and the local Sakara beer. The other evening we enjoyed a meal at the Intercontinental Hotel after visiting the Cairo Tower. We chose the Intercontinental Hotel to have a dining experience with views over the River Nile.

The meals were not expensive and the quality was excellent.  If you did not want to leave the hotel in the evenings you would not be disappointed by the menu or the quality.  The service was a little off at breakfast mainly due to the large group tours but in the evening the service was attentive.

Conclusion

We recommend staying at the Steigenberger El Tahrir Square for its location close to the Egyptian Museum and El Tahrir Square. The hotel provided everything we needed and we were very happy with our stay.

If we visited Cairo again we would choose a hotel that overlooked the River Nile such as the Intercontinental, only because of a new location and neighbourhood to explore.
