Ho Chi Minh City District One

Why stay in Ho Chi Minh’s city District One? District One is home to many of the attractions of HCMC such as the Central Post Office, The Independence Palace, Notre Dame Basilica and more. It is also good for shopping e.g Bến Thành Market and great for a range of restaurants.

Ngan Ha Hotel – 2 Star – Submitted by Adriana from Wanderlicious

Ngan Ha Hotel Ho Chi Minh City
Ngan Ha Hotel Ho Chi Minh City

Address: 190 Le Thanh Ton District One

Ngan Ha Hotel (formerly the Milky Way Hotel) is in a perfect location in central Ho Chi Minh City, yet it’s far away enough from the loud bars that it is a secluded, peaceful and quiet stay. It also has one of the best rooftop restaurants in town where you can enjoy breakfast; it overlooks the bustling market below and it’s covered in green plants, hanging vines and comfortable, squashy chairs and sofas.

The hotel itself is directly opposite the famous Ben Thanh Market which has everything you could possibly think of; fresh fruit, restaurants and cafes, clothing shops, shoe shops, souvenir stalls and fruit and vegetable stalls. You can wander around inside for hours, and if you fancy one of the sit-down restaurants outside, there is plenty to choose from.

The hotel is also very close to the Ho Chi Minh City Museum and the Fine Arts Museum which is renowned in Ho Chi Minh for its collections of paintings, pottery, sculptures and even some weapons!

TIP: I recommend having a look at the exquisite bakery on Truong Dinh Street, there are plenty of fresh, warmly baked croissants and sandwiches to choose from.

Duc Vuong Saigon Hotel – 3 Star Submitted by Linda from Muy Linda Travels

Address: 195 Bui Vien District One

The Duc Vuong Saigon Hotel is a great choice if you’re visiting Ho Chi Minh City and you’re looking for good value and a central location in District 1. The Duc Vuong is right in the middle of the action on Bui Vien walking street, the centre of Ho Chi Minh City’s nightlife with restaurants and bars on the doorstep.

The streets outside the hotel are busy but the Duc Vuong has clean, quiet rooms at the back of the hotel. The hotel also has a coffee shop and offers room service and a 24-hour front desk.

A highlight of this hotel is the fabulous city views from the rooftop bar and restaurant. Decorated with colourful Vietnamese lanterns, the rooftop bar is a good place to relax at the end of the day and watch the city light up at night.

The Duc Vuong Hotel is within walking distance of popular attractions like the Ben Thanh Street food market, the Independence Palace and the War Remnants Museum. It’s also within a couple of kilometres of the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office, all must-see places on a South Vietnam itinerary.

I loved the friendly helpful service and the location but would suggest choosing your room carefully. While many rooms have windows, the cheapest rooms are internal and have no natural light. But all rooms have air conditioning and an in-room safe

The Duc Vuong Hotel gets excellent reviews and it’s a good choice if you’re looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay in Ho Chi Minh City.

Skytel Homestay 3- Star Submitted by Annelies from Travelers and Dreamers

Skytel Homestay Ho Chi Minh City
Skytel Homestay Ho Chi Minh City
Address: 41 Hồ Hảo Hớn, Phường Cô Giang, Quận 1, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh

Skytel homestay is a lovely homestay in District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City. It’s located in a rather local neighbourhood in the city, yet close to Bui Vien Walking Street if you fancy eating at touristy restaurants and want to stay close to tour agencies to book day trips.
The homestay is located in a cute building with a 24-hour reception. They offer various room types and I can highly suggest booking one of the superior or deluxe rooms. They come with windows, a hairdryer, and a fridge and seem to come straight out of an IKEA magazine. Note that the standard rooms are cheaper but come without windows and the photos on Agoda are a bit deceiving.
On the ground floor of the homestay is a wonderful local coffee shop. No tourists to be seen here, but a great place to mingle with the locals and to get your shot of espresso in the morning. The homestay also boasts a lovely rooftop terrace where you can enjoy your breakfast or hang out with a good book or your laptop after a day of sightseeing.
Attractions like the War Remnants Museum and Ben Thanh Market are only a short Grab ride away. The homestay is also close to the bus stop where you can take the local bus to the Cu Chi Tunnels.

Skytel is a great place to stay for travellers that want to immerse themselves in Vietnamese culture, yet be close to popular sights, attractions, and tourist facilities.

Gemini Saigon Luxury Hotel 3.5 Star – Submitted by Adriana from Wanderlicious

Gemini Saigon Luxury Hotel
Gemini Saigon Luxury Hotel

Address: 40 Bui Vien Pharm Ngu Lao District One

Gemini Saigon Luxury Hotel (not to be confused with their sister site, Gemini Saigon which is not a luxury hotel) is right in the beating heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Outside the front door are at least 50 local Vietnamese restaurants, another 50 cafes and just a 3-4 minute walk is Bui Vien Street.

Bui Vien Street is often called the “walking street,” but it’s not the most accurate term. Instead, the sidewalks are crowded with tables from bars and restaurants, along with parked motorbikes. As a result, you’ll end up walking in the middle of the street itself, squeezing past hundreds of others. The bars play loud music, and recruiters try to entice you with cocktails. Dancers sway on platforms, adding to the lively atmosphere. Take in the bright neon lights and enjoy the energetic vibe. Despite the chaos, walking along this street is exciting and every day you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner in new places, try out one of the many bars lined with Vietnamese lanterns; it’s rather special and the perfect place to stay if you’re after a lively stay in Ho Chi Minh; this area of town is vibrant and thrilling.

Caravelle Hotel 5-star – Submitted by Hannah from The Capetown Blog

Caravelle Hotel Ho Chi Minh City
Caravelle Hotel Ho Chi Minh City

Address: 19-23 Lam Son Square District One

The Caravelle is one of Ho Chi Minh City’s most historic hotels, and you can definitely step back into the Saigon of the 1950s and 60s when you stay here.

During the Vietnam War, The Caravelle was a major hub for journalists and the Australian and New Zealand embassies operated out of the hotel, too.

Several scenes from the movie version of Graham Greene’s The Quiet American were filmed here, and Michael Caine reportedly spent a lot of time at the hotel buffet!

But not only is the hotel historic, but it’s also very luxurious, with a beautiful swimming pool, modern fitness centre, and spacious rooms. You can choose a room or suite with a view of the Opera House, or even opt for a studio or suite.

The buffet that Michael Caine loved so much is still here, now named Buffet 19, and you can add bottomless booze if you want! But if buffets aren’t your style, there’s also a Tapas Kitchen and the award-winning Reflections restaurant.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s Saigon Saigon Rooftop bar is one of the best places in the city to grab a drink at sunset, not just because of the great views, but the creative cocktails as well.

The Caravelle is also in an ideal location, close to the Opera House, Dong Khoi Street, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, and Ben Thanh Market.

InterContinental Hotel Saigon – 5-star Submitted by Michelle from Intentional Travelers

Address: Cnr. of Hai Ba Trung Street & Le Duan Boulevard District One

For a comfortable and conveniently located hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, I recommend the InterContinental Saigon Hotel. We used IHG points to book our stay over New Year’s Eve and enjoyed walking all over the historic districts of Ho Chi Minh City.

The hotel is situated in downtown District 1, a short walk from famous landmarks like the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Opera House. You can also walk a little further to Ben Thanh Market, Reunification Palace, the Saigon River, and events on Đ. Nguyễn Huệ boulevard. The hotel’s central location allows you to explore the vibrant streets and discover the charms of Ho Chi Minh City.
The InterContinental Saigon has spacious rooms and suites with great views of the city. They felt modern and upscale, with conveniences like a mini fridge and special touches like bathrobes. The hotel also has a rooftop pool and an in-house spa.

For Club InterContinental members, there are also premium rooms which come with breakfast, evening cocktails, access to an exclusive lounge, and other privileges.

While we preferred to eat in town, the InterContinental has three restaurants: Yu Chu specializes in Cantonese and Peking cuisine, Market 39 offers seafood and an international buffet, and Basilico is a casual Italian trattoria.
With comfortable rooms, excellent facilities, and a prime location, the InterContinental Saigon Hotel is an ideal choice for a memorable stay in Vietnam.

Pullman Saigon Centre Ho Chi Minh City
Pullman Saigon Centre Ho Chi Minh City

Sheraton Hotel HCMC 5 Star  – Submitted by Sophie from Delightful Travel Notes

Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers
Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers

Address: 88 Dong Khoi District One

The Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers has consistently been one of the best upscale hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. The hotel’s central location in District 1 is undoubtedly one of its biggest selling points. It is within walking distance from popular sites such as the Reunification Palace, the Opera House, the War Remnants Museum, Nguyen Hue walking street and Ben Thanh Market. Therefore, this hotel is a perfect base to explore the city’s cultural and historic attractions.

The guest rooms are spacious, with the basic room starting at an ample 37 square meters (398 square feet). In addition, they have recently been renovated with an elegant and contemporary look. The comfortable bedding ensures quality sleep for guests.

Hotel facilities include a fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool. Onsite dining options feature two restaurants: Saigon Cafe, serving a sumptuous breakfast buffet, and Li Bai, a Chinese restaurant. Besides, there is also a wine bar on the 23rd floor, where guests can unwind with a drink while soaking in the panoramic views of Ho Chi Minh City.

However, there is no need to limit yourself to hotel dining since the Sheraton Saigon is surrounded by some of Ho Chi Minh City’s best Vietnamese restaurants and international offerings as well. The hotel’s location is also in close proximity to high-end boutiques, souvenir shops, and shopping malls.

In conclusion, the Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers delivers a luxurious, convenient, and memorable stay with its prime location and well-appointed rooms. It is a great choice for travellers seeking to immerse themselves in the bustling atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City.

District 3

Why visit District 3 in Ho Chi Minh City? District 3 is home to restaurants, coffee shops, religious sites and great eating streets such as Vo Van Tan,

Au Lac Legend 4 – Star Submitted by Jeff from Life of Y

Address: 90 Đ. Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Phường 6, Quận 3, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh

The hotel I’m recommending in Ho Chi Minh City is the Au Lac Legend Hotel.

My partner and I want the best bang for our buck when it comes to accommodation and rarely spend money on a bed over an experience. However, whilst visiting Vietnam, our money went a lot further in this budget-friendly destination.

The Au Lac Legend Hotel is a centrally-located, budget, boutique hotel which we thought was excellent value. We were close to many of the tourist landmarks such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, Saigon Post Office and the Ben Thanh Market.

Safety is also a priority when we travel together, and the hotel and surrounding area felt very safe, even at night.

A good range of double, twin and suite rooms are available and many with balconies. We loved the dark wood finish of the rooms – it reminded us of a nice boutique hotel in Bali rather than being in a bustling HCMC.

In Southeast Asia, we usually like to eat out. However, the Au Lac Restaurant was very good. There’s an extensive range of Vietnamese food as well as Western (their breakfast was particularly good!). The little garden cafe was also a great place to relax with nice strong coffee.

One of the best things about this hotel is the rooftop pool and bar. Whether it was a morning swim or a sunset cocktail (with amazing views over the city), this was definitely our favourite part of the hotel.

If a boutique experience at a budget price sounds ideal then you should definitely consider the Au Lac Legend Hotel.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Ho Chi Minh City offers a wide range of accommodations to suit every budget and preference. From affordable homestays in District 1 to luxurious hotels with panoramic city views, there is something for everyone. Additionally, the city’s vibrant atmosphere and rich cultural heritage make it an ideal destination for both leisure and business travellers. Whether you are a budget-conscious traveller or seeking a lavish experience, Ho Chi Minh City will not disappoint when it comes to finding the perfect place to stay.
